Urgent Call for Support:
Hassala
A Lifeline for Gaza's artists

Amid the ongoing genocide in Gaza, where every day brings irreversible loss, Hassala is a cultural and humanitarian intervention. Initiated by the artistic coalition Artists Together, Hassala exists to protect the survival - both physical and creative - of Palestinian artists in Gaza who continue to create, resist, and remember through art.

As bombs destroy homes, families, and neighbourhoods, Gaza’s artists are being killed, displaced, and starved. Hassala offers urgent support to help ensure that this generation of artists - Gaza’s cultural memory-keepers - can survive today’s destruction and still have the tools, strength, and support to tell the story tomorrow.

Artists Together is a coalition of artists and cultural workers from Gaza, historic Palestine, and the diaspora, joined by creators across the Arab world and allies worldwide. We are united by the belief that art is not a luxury - it is a human right, a political act, and an archive of survival.

We see Gaza’s artists not just as individuals in need - but also as essential bearers of culture, memory, and testimony. Their work resists erasure and reminds the world of the full, irreplaceable humanity behind every statistic.

Our mission

Our mission is both simple and profound:

To help Palestinian artists in Gaza stay alive - and stay artists.

We exist to ensure that:
They can survive - alongside their families - with dignity, despite unimaginable hardship.
They can continue to create, document, and express in the midst of devastation.
They can be the narrators and archivists of this moment - ensuring that what has been done to Gaza will be remembered and reckoned with. Already, hundreds of artists and cultural workers have been killed, and many more are wounded or displaced - unable to access materials, income, or platforms. Without urgent support, an entire generation of Gaza’s cultural memory is at risk of being extinguished.

How we work

Over the last year, Artists Together has built a database of 300 Palestinian artists currently living in Gaza, including visual artists, filmmakers, writers, and multidisciplinary creators. Many have lost their homes, studios, archives, and family members. All are struggling to survive - materially, emotionally, and artistically.

Hassala supports these artists through two urgent streams:

1. Monthly Financial Assistance

To help cover basic living costs and enable artists to focus on survival and care. Funds are disbursed through the independent UK-registered A. M. Qattan Foundation (AMQF), following a transparent and needs-based selection process. (For USA donors, contributions are tax-deductible.)

2. Creative Continuity & Professional Development

Despite the chaos and immense challenges they face on a daily basis, many artists are still trying to create. Hassala offers access to resources, mentorship, training, and platforms - to help artists continue practicing and evolving their work.

We are also building pathways to residencies, education, and international collaborations - ensuring that these artists’ voices are not just preserved but amplified.

Why This Matters

In Gaza today, the fight is not only for life, but for memory. For culture. For the right to narrate.

While humanitarian aid provides food and shelter, Hassala also protects the power of storytelling, imagination, and cultural continuity. These 300 artists are not simply recipients of aid — they are the ones who will tell the story of Gaza, now and for generations.

Without them, the narrative is lost. Without them, the future forgets.

This is not only about supporting individuals - it’s about safeguarding an entire people’s cultural presence in the world. What we are facing is not only physical genocide, but cultural erasure.
